Background
For years, McNurlin & Associates, P.C. has been providing quality, personalized financial guidance to local individuals and businesses. McNurlin & Associates, P.C. expertise ranges from basic tax management and accounting services to more in-depth services such as audits, financial statements, and financial planning.

Our Mission
Our mission is to help clients maintain financial viability in the present while taking a proactive approach to achieve future goals. This requires open communication to reach an understanding of our clients's needs through research and sound analysis. McNurlin & Associates, P.C. is dedicated to meeting these goals with high standards of excellence and professionalism.


Our Team

Don M. McNurlin, CPA
Don started his own practice in 1987 as a Certified Public Accountant; in 1990 this practice merged with M. James Sealock. In June 1993, the merger was dissolved and what is now McNurlin & Associates, P.C. was formed.

Don spent four years as treasurer of Blackgold Energy Resources Inc., an oil and production company, responsible for financial and tax matters for Blackgold and several affiliated companies. Prior to that, he worked for five years in the audit department of Fox & Co., a national CPA firm where he audited both public and private companies.

Don graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He holds a CPA certificate in Colorado and is an active member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also participated in a number of organizations devoted to small businesses and non-profits and has volunteered in numerous youth athletic endeavors.

Kim Hitchcock, CPA
Kim started her career in Maryland with a regional CPA firm specializing in small business and homeowner association audits. She moved to Alaska in 1998 where she worked for the “Big-4” firm, KPMG LLP as a Tax Manager with an emphasis on the taxation and annual reporting for not-for-profit entities, small businesses, insurance companies, Alaska Native Corporations and individuals. Kim and her family moved to Colorado in 2007 where she spent two years working as a senior tax analyst in the manufacturing industry and just recently returned to public accounting with McNurlin & Associates, P.C.

Kim has a total of 15 years of accounting experience including 13 years in public accounting and 2 years in private accounting. She specializes in all areas of accounting and taxation including audits, reviews, compilations and financial statement preparation as well as the taxation of individuals, partnerships (LLC’s), corporations and trusts.

Kim graduated with honors from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She holds a license in the states of Colorado, Maryland and Alaska and is a current member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Kim participates in more than 40 hours annually of seminars and courses of continuing education in the maintenance of her license as a CPA.
   


Stephen P. Kessler, CPA
Steve is a full time accountant for McNurlin & Associates, P.C. Steve specializes in all areas of taxation including individuals, partnerships (LLC’s), corporations, trusts, and tax planning. He also has experience in audits, reviews, compilations, and financial statement preparation. He has vast experience with small to medium size businesses.

Steve has over 23 years of experience in accounting including 12 years in public accounting and 11 years in private accounting as a corporate controller. He has served as controller of three medium sized businesses (revenues from 10 million to 20 million a year) and worked with three public accounting firms including Ehrhardt, Keefe, & Steiner (the largest local firm in Colorado).

Steve graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy. He is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American institute of Certified Public Accountants.
   


Lou Klane, CPA
Lou is a full time accountant for McNurlin & Associates, P.C. She provides bookkeeping, auditing and tax services for various clients.

Lou was an auditor with Ernst & Young (formerly Arthur Young & Company) for five years. After taking time off to be at home with her young children, she returned to work on various accounting projects for numerous medium-sized companies. Lou then went on to become a certified residential appraiser and co-owner of a multi-state appraisal company. She returned to public accounting in 2008.

Lou graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and obtained a CPA certificate from the State of Colorado.
   


Ryan Barrett, CPA
Ryan is a full time accountant for McNurlin & Associates, P.C. He provides auditing and tax services for various clients.

Ryan has 10 years experience in accounting, including 3 years in public accounting. Ryan was previously an auditor with a Denver area CPA firm. Prior to that he worked as an internal auditor in the real estate industry. He has experience working with clients in a variety of industries including aviation, financial services, youth sports, manufacturing, small business lending, governmental and not-for-profits.

Ryan graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1997, and has obtained a CPA certificate from the State of Colorado.

   


Cathleen Samuelson
Cathleen is a full-time employee of McNurlin & Associates, P.C. besides having her own accounting practice. She is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, able to offer QuickBooks advice from installation to technical details. She also does accounting for small entities, payroll tax returns, payroll set-up and monitoring, and individual and corporate taxes.

Prior to joining McNurlin & Associates, P.C. Cathleen worked for five years for an accounting firm in Idaho Springs, CO. She is a graduate of Regis University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Minor in Business Administration.
   


Bobbi Blakley
Bobbi is the firm administrator and has worked at McNurlin & Associates, P.C. for more than five years. She is responsible for client relations, including billing and collections, personnel matters and all office administration.

Her skill at handling so many jobs comes from experience: in previous positions, Bobbi has been bookkeeper, accounting clerk, secretary and clerical support. She has an Associate Degree in Accounting from Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC. Bobbi has been involved with Girl Scouts for more than 20 years and volunteers as needed with her children's high school sports activities.
