McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. has been providing quality, personalized accounting, tax and financial guidance to individuals and businesses for more than 20 years. Our expertise ranges from basic tax management and accounting services to more in-depth services such as audits, financial statements, and financial planning.
Our mission is to help clients maintain financial viability in the present while taking a proactive approach to achieve future goals. This requires open communication to reach an understanding of our clients’ needs through research and sound analysis. McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. is dedicated to meeting these goals with high standards of excellence and professionalism.
Don M. McNurlin
Certified Public Accountant
Don McNurlin is the founding owner of the Firm. He started his own practice in 1987 as a Certified Public Accountant; in 1990 this practice merged with M. James Sealock. In June 1993, the merger was dissolved and what is now McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. was formed.
Don spent four years as treasurer of Blackgold Energy Resources Inc., an oil and production company, responsible for financial and tax matters for Blackgold and several affiliated companies. Prior to that, he worked for five years in the audit department of Fox & Co., a national CPA firm where he audited both public and private companies.
Don graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He holds a CPA certificate in Colorado and is an active member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also participated in a number of organizations devoted to small businesses and non-profits and has volunteered in numerous youth athletic endeavors.

Kim is the “Hitchcock” in the McNurlin, Hitchcock name and the owner of the Firm!
She is originally from Maryland where she started her career as a CPA with a regional firm specializing in small business taxes and homeowner association audits. She and her husband moved to Alaska in 1998 where she worked for the Big-4 firm, KPMG LLP as a Tax Manager serving individuals, small businesses and Nonprofit Organizations. Kim and her family moved to Colorado in 2007 where she spent two years working as a Senior Tax Analyst in the manufacturing industry before joining Don and forming what is now McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. Kim specializes in all areas of accounting, taxation and financial statement reporting. When not in the office, Kim enjoys spending time with her husband and their teenage daughter.
Crystal is the Accounting Manager for the Firm. She has been in the accounting profession for over 13 years and she brings a wide range of skills to the practice. When not at the office, Crystal enjoys time with her horses and rescue mission.
David Reed is the Tax Manager for the firm. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 25 years of experience in public accounting and various industry roles in corporate tax departments. He specializes in many areas of taxation including corporations, partnerships and individuals. He also provides tax planning and strategy for business owners and individuals to minimize federal, state and local taxes working within the current tax code.
David moved to Denver from the Chicago area and graduated from the University of Denver with a B.S. in business administration. David continued his advanced education by taking the accounting and tax courses required to sit for and pass the CPA exam, becoming a licensed CPA in 1992.
David thoroughly enjoys the active Colorado lifestyle through biking, hiking, skiing (on and off-piste) and is always on the lookout for new adventures.
Eric has 11 years of experience in the auditing field. He received his CPA license in 2007 and began his career at Deloitte. Eric transitioned into a small CPA firm where he became the audit manager in 2013. He has handled a variety of small to mid-sized audits in both the for-profit and not-for-profit areas. In 2018, Eric decided to join McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. to help the growing audit practice. Eric is a Denver native and graduated with honors from Colorado State University.
Christina Knell has lived in Colorado for over 20 years, since relocating to attend CU Boulder. She went on to get an MBA from CU Denver in 2010. In her 15 years of experience, she has worked with a variety of companies and industries ranging from health and beauty to international healthcare, nonprofit and real estate. Christina enjoys getting to know different businesses through the accounting process.
In her leisure (what’s that?!) time, she enjoys coffee, running, and daydreaming about home improvements. Christina lives in Lakewood with her husband Nathan and their two children Amber and Oliver. They also have 2 attack toy poodles, Frank and Ruby.
Jim is a Senior Accountant with over 25 years of experience in accounting. Jim got his start in accounting while in the United States Navy. While he has a wide range of experience including large publicly traded fortune 500 companies, he has most recently been working with startups and smaller private companies.
Jim is a Denver native who has lived in San Diego, CA and Houston, TX. He has traveled around the United States and to more than 14 other countries for various personal and professional reasons.
Jennifer joined McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, PC in 2018 as a full time staff accountant. She completed her master’s degree in Accounting with a concentration in forensic accounting in December 2018. She is now studying for the Certified Fraud Examiner and the Certified Public Accountant exams.
She and her husband have seven children (six are adults) and two dogs. In their spare time, they like to travel, go hiking and camping, and spend time with family and friends. Her bucket list includes traveling to all 50 states (she has achieved 41), climbing a 14er, and someday becoming a grandmother. Jennifer is an animal lover and it has always been a dream of hers to own a rescue facility.
Taylor Hilton recently graduated from Ashford University with his master’s in Accounting. Taylor will be using his education to work as a staff accountant for McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. He is originally from South Dakota and moved to Denver about seven years ago. He enjoys following Denver’s professional sports teams and loves getting outside. In his off time, he enjoys hiking, trail-running and whatever else will get him into the mountains. He is excited to be a part of the team and see what he can contribute to the business.
Lei is a full time senior staff accountant with the firm. She graduated from Denver University with a degree in accounting. She has experience in multiple aspects of the field.
Lei is originally from Chengdu, China and is fluent in Mandarin and English. When not crunching numbers she enjoys reading, talking long walks, and going to the zoo.
James is a veteran of the USAF, which is where his accounting career began. He now works as a Staff Accountant for McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. James graduated from Regis University and has almost 30 years in the accounting field ranging from government, oil & gas, not for profit, medical services, manufacturing and aggregate fields. He is originally from Okinawa and raised in North Dakota as what he terms a military brat. After retiring from the military in 1995, he took up residence in Colorado.
When away from the office, James enjoys the game of Darts and has been on the Board of Directors of his local league for the last 6 years. He occasionally travels to some dart tournaments around the local area and the surrounding states. He and his wife have seven children and two are in the Air Force and Marines.
Brian joined the team at McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. in May of 2019. He is part of the growing audit department, working as a staff auditor. He has many years’ experience working with large utilities and telecommunications clients.
Brian is a native of Colorado, raised in the mountain towns of the western slope. In his free time he enjoys fast cars, snowboarding, rock climbing, salsa dancing, welding, and photography.
Steve has over 30 years of experience in public and private accounting. He has served as controller of three medium sized businesses (revenues from 10 million to 20 million a year) and worked with three public accounting firms.
Steve graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy. He is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Kim Sears is a jack of all trades. Her title of Tax Administrator barely covers half of what she does for the firm. She has taken McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. into the 21st century and has big plans to create a paperless company. She handles a variety of other tasks, including final processing of client documents and will be heading the effort to help our clients E-file this tax season. Her experience as an administrator for various companies’ aid in her amazing ability to coax our clients and staff into using new technologies. She recently relocated to Denver, Colorado and is enjoying getting to know the community.
Bobbi is the firm administrator and has worked at McNurlin, Hitchcock & Associates, P.C. for more than 15 years. She is responsible for client relations, including billing and collections, personnel matters and all office administration.
Her skill at handling so many jobs comes from experience: in previous positions, Bobbi has been a bookkeeper, accounting clerk, secretary and clerical support. She has an Associate Degree in Accounting from Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC.
